Cosmetic Surgery Procedures
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat from various areas of the body. The most popular areas for liposuction are the buttocks and stomach, but some patients also choose to have liposuction performed on the neck, back and legs. There are several new techniques that are being developed in order to make liposuction less invasive. One of these techniques, lipodissolve, uses a chemical solution that is injected into the fatty areas to dissolve the fat. Lipodissolve requires almost no recovery time. However, this treatment is not approved by the FDA. The best candidates for liposuction are individuals who are already close to their ideal weight, as liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. Though patients may choose to undergo several liposuction procedures in their lifetime to treat additional areas of the body, liposuction is considered a permanent procedure because the removed fat cells do not grow back. Before making any plastic surgery decisions, patients should consult a board-certified plastic surgeon.
