Rhinoplasty Surgery Procedure
Rhinoplasty is a type of surgery that is performed for cosmetic reasons and/or to improve breathing. It is also commonly referred to as nose reshaping surgery and "nose job." Two main nose surgery techniques are open and closed rhinoplasty. Open rhinoplasty is used for more extensive nose reshaping and requires the surgeon to make an incision on the patient's columella. (the vertical slit of skin between the nostrils). Closed rhinoplasty is more beneficial for patients desiring only slight nose reshaping. During closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are made inside the nose. During both open and closed rhinoplasty, the skin is gently lifted and the bone and underlying cartilage are reshaped. Recovery time for rhinoplasty ranges from 4-6 weeks. Some patients choose to return to regular social activities after only 4-5 weeks, but most choose to wait a full six weeks.
